Alma (LIP Alumna) Remarks Upon Receiving Life is Precious™ Program College Scholarship

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who is here today, Ms. Julie and Dr. Gil, thank you. I want to thank Life is Precious™ for the opportunity that they are giving me today to be here. I am honored to receive this scholarship to help me cover my tuition at Brooklyn College. I do not only want to thank this beautiful organization, Comunilife, but the program Life is Precious™.

Life is Precious has given me the resources to help me deal with my depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I lost my father at a young age, which left a feeling of deep sorrow in my heart. I lost motivation for my passions and interests. I lost sense of what life was. I had negative thoughts about ending my life and at some point, I thought I would not be here past my eighteen birthday.

Now, I am eighteen years old and I see myself doing great things in the future thanks to the help and resources that Life is Precious offers, along with the amazing staff that has been there such as Ms. Coronel and the staff that currently is there supporting young Latina girls, I can say that I am in a better place mentally and emotionally. I am thriving in life and living the college life, the life that the girls of Life is Precious dream of.

Thanks to the resources we have at Life is Precious, we have better opportunities in life and academically, we have some that listens to us, someone who helps us deal with our anxiety through music, painting, and exercising. The organization Comunilife has shown me that Life is Precious.
